Are NFTS worth their weight in gold or will they crash like a lead balloon? - NFTS - Part 2 - Reading and Speaking.

 

Each of these lessons are based on a topic such as OUTSIDER art, NFTS or more general like the Ted talk on BLUE ZONES or tips for better PRESENTATIONS. Part 2 is a reading on NFTS – and finally a discussion on how cryptocurrencies and NFTS will play a part in the future of the Metaverse.

Objective – Using the new vocabulary from the two parts of the NFT exercises and consciously implementing Do and Make collocations the students will practice and drill this vocabulary and structures in conversation.

Class duration – one and a half hour sessions \ Number of students – 1 – 3 maximum

The majority of corrections are given in real time during the online class with notes taken and written in the CHAT option in Microsoft teams, google MEET or skype.

PART – 2 - READING - Euphoria in the digital age - 

This reading is from the Spanish paper -  EL Pais - \ USA edition\ and gives a comprehensive idea about what are NFTS, how they came about and where they might be going. After reading the article discuss the phrases below and what they mean in the context of the article.

Discuss and review the vocabulary from the reading exercise and answer the questions below. 

VOCAB – a milestone - a significant stage in the development of something, veracity – conformity to facts , organic growth – gradual development, a fad – something that happens only for a while – e.g. - foodie-ism , to hover \ verb\ 

DEATH THROES - the beginning of the end of someone or thing – the Opera finishes with the hero in his death throes \ violent end of the person\ ---- OR figuratively – After two years of a global pandemia many airline companies are in their final DEATH THROES.

2. Before NFTS digital artists could not sell their work as artists in the 'physical' world could, now they can. ---- Is the idea of owning something which only exists in a digital world appealing to you ?

People invest for very different reasons, some MAKE bets but others want to network and DO business with the super rich. For what other reasons do you think someone might buy an exceptionally expensive NFT?

A lot of action is driven by HERD CHASING – which is the way IN WHICH cows or animals in follow the group. In the case of speculating on the internet the numbers of people or the HERD are unprecedented. ---- 'The very wealthy are willing to spend lump sums of money on status tokens such as NFTS and then more HUMBLE investors imitate this behaviour.
