Trophies - Chartered Accountants Published Accounts Awards 2013

This was the fifth year that I have been commissioned to complete the trophies for the prestigious chartered accountants published accountants awards and this year I wanted to change the design. I worked on this project with another two people from my workshop in Madrid Xavier ...... and Fernando ........ . I have learnt a lot of the past year while working with these people on installations or projects such as this. Xavier is an excellent jeweller and engraver and Fernando specializes in welding but really can put his skills to many different materials and finishes.

I completed the design and coordinated between the other three people involved in the trophies.Fernando and myself worked on making the resin trophies which involved ten different stages as you can see in the drawing. I am not going to go into all the details now but we achieved an excellent finish to the clear resin pieces with each one hand carved separately by Xavier.The concept was of a raindrop hitting the ground producing growth in the form of a pudding plant. 

Once the trophies had been cast, sanded and polished they were then given to Xavier to engrave and after again cleaned and a final polish.The sanding and polishing of each trophy involved many different grades of sanding and polishing by cutting first using a ´ diamonte pasta´ or polishing wax with fine diamond dust which cuts into the surface preparing it for the final polish. There was approximately twelve working hours spent on each trophy, all of the sanding was done by hand.

Once the resin part of the trophies was complete they were brought to Bobby Blount´s studio in Dublin which is in the grounds of Cast foundry. Bobby set each resin piece into a carera marble before the plates were set.
