Beatriz Palacios – Made in Spain

Beatriz says that making jewellry for her has been a life long passion, as a kid she would create head pieces, necklaces and bracelets out of the beades and fabric leaft from her mothers more elaborate designs. So it has always been in the family and to this day her mother knits and croches all kinds of beautiful scraves, dresses , jumpers, aprons etc ..

"I think it is or certainly was in the past a part of spanish culture for the women to be creative and self sufficient¨.Traditionally in spain Madrid also had the greatest supply of materials for dress making and design due to the fact that the royal family had residence in the city
To this day there are numerous shops specialising in certain cotton ,wools silks and lace that can be found circulating plaza mayor in the heart of the city. In fact these are the same shops that would have serviced the royal families and gentry of Spain. For these reasons the hand cratfed fabrics and clothes made in Madrid have been more diverse and interesting just due to the multitude of choice. So I guess it is something I have alawys been around due to my mother and also my city."

After graduating as a mining engineer in 2006 she moved to Dublin to live abroad and improve her english. Shortly after moving there she became part of ' The loft' - an artist and fashion collective based at the powerscourt town house centre in Dublin. For a year in Ireland she made and sold her own jewellry designs before returning to madrid in october 2007. While working as a full time mining engineer in madrid Beatriz still managed to develop her style of jewellry and the business, flying back to Dublin every six weeks to restock the shop there.

Between 2008 and 2009 Beatriz concentrated on personalizing her style and began in earnst to search through numerous shops for raw materials on visits to Italy and France and in her own city of Madrid. Looking for quality and unique design in precious stones such as onix, agate and jade which she found in markets and small shops in the larger cities of France, Italy and Spain. Collecting these precious stones and metal designs she has incorporated her own contemporary tastes to the vintage material and developed a destinctive style of her own. All of her jewellry is hand made using traditional techniques such as lost wax process for casting metals, stone setting and welding to name a few.

All of the time Beatriz is adding substance to her collections and in January 2011 she began a series of courses with one to one tutoring in fabrication and processes in contemporary jewellry design and continues these courses to the present day.

Beatriz Palacios jewellery can now be found in Finland, France, Sweden, Ireland, Germany, Spain and most recently in Japan. Her continued success comes down to the unique design and quality of every handmade piece of work which she feels is best appreciated most of all at internatioanl trade fairs where customers get the opportunity to see the work first hand. Most recently she has taken part in the Eclate de mode international fair at Porte de Versailles in Paris in Jaunuary and again in June 2012 and between the six months of these two fairs her sales had doubled. All the time her work is becoming more intrinsic and all the time more well known by such female fashionistas and artists as the american singer Pink, the spanish actress Cristina Alcazar and most recently the female singer Lourdes from the spanish band 'Russian red' photographed in Vogue fashion magazine- may 2012.

In the secound half of 2012 Beatriz hopes to build on her success by branching out to London and New york and all of this made at home in Spain.www.beatrizpalacios.es
