Yo he trabajado ya por un período de un año y medio en La Tabacalera. Hasta hace poco sólo había trabajado ocasionalmente en el espacio debido a mi estudio se basó en Dublin. Durante este último año y medio he llegado a conocer personas en el centro y estoy empezando a tener una mejor comprensión del lugar.
CSA La Tabacalera fue la compañía más grande de tabaco en Madrid y fue en la producción hasta sólo hace ocho años. El Ministerio de Cultura español había planeado construir el Centro Nacional de Artes Visuales en esta localidad con un presupuesto de 30 millones de euros, pero con las crisis que prolongan en España toda la propuesta se ha detenido.
Durante un período transitorio y con el contexto cultural en mente un nuevo proyecto surgido por el cual la comunidad local de Lavapiés se les dio la oportunidad de organizar y dirigir las actividades culturales del centro ya su vez el gobierno daría un poco de mantenimiento y seguridad a todos por el centro.
El objetivo del centro es ofrecer a la cultura libre para todas las posibilidades de danza contemporánea, papiroflexia y taller esculturales, ensayar banda, obras de teatro, clases de dibujo de la vida, cualesquiera que sean. El primer centro se abrió un poco más de dos años ahora el 10 de junio de 2010.
Cuando el PP fueron elegidos para el poder en España el año pasado existía el temor de que el centro estaría cerrado, sino que el PP han permitido que el centro para continuar por otros dos anos. Reciamente un artículo de dos páginas en el centro apareció en El País del español documento nacional de referencia en el centro y los dos años siguientes como "El Experimento".
La Tabacalera es realmente un reflejo de los tiempos, es un lugar en el flujo de no querer definir su objetivo, sino más bien a la espera de ver cómo la multitud de entidades distintas de trabajo o tomar parte en el centro que dirige.
Para mí personalmente ha sido muy valiosa, que tiene el libre uso de un espacio que me permitió trabajar en Dublin y el transporte de mis esculturas y dibujos de La Tabacalera, en preparación para una exposición individual en diciembre en Madrid. Había más de setenta piezas y sentí que la el trabajo era seguro que antes del exposición.
Durante el último año y medio mientras trabajaba en Dublin y volar con frecuencia a Madrid tuve la oportunidad de construir una relación artística con la ciudad a través de proyectos efímeros en el centro.
En un futuro cercano, cuando todos mis obras y los materiales han sido transportados a Madrid voy a ser capaz de trabajar profesionalmente desde La tabacalera. Hasta octubre voy a preparar los trabajos para dos exposiciones individuales, una en Madrid en marzo de 2013 y otro en Erolzheim ( Alemania) en abril de 2013.

CSA La tabacalera was the largest tobacco company in Madrid and was in production until only eight years ago.The Spanish Ministry of Culture had planned to build the national centre of Visual Arts at this location with a budget of 30 million euros but with the prolonging crises in Spain the entire proposal has been halted.
For a transitional period and with the cultural context in mind a new project emerged whereby the local community of Lavapies were given the opportunity to organise and run cultural activities from the centre and in turn the goverenment would provide some maintenance and all security for the centre.
The aim of the centre is to offer free culture for every possibility from skateboarding, contemporary dance, origami and sculptural worshops, band rehearsels, plays, life drawing classes, whatever.The centre first opened just over two years ago now on the 10th of june 2010.
When the PP were elected to power in Spain last year there was a fear that the centre would be closed but instead the PP have allowed the centre to continue for another two years.Recently a two page article on the centre appeared in El Pais the spanish national paper referring to the centre and the following two years as 'The Experiment'.
La tabacalera really is a reflection of the times, it is a place in flux not wanting to define it's aims but rather waiting to see how the multitude of separate entities working or taking part in the centre direct it.
For me personally it has been invaluable, having the free use of a space enabled me to work in Dublin and transport my sculptures and drawings to La tabacalera in preparation for a solo exhibition in December in Madrid.There were over seventy pieces and I felt the work was secure there prior to the show.Over the past year and a half while working in Dublin and flying often to Madrid I was able to build up an artistic relationship with the city by working on ephemeral projects at the centre.
In the near future I when all my work and materials have been transported to Madrid I will be able to work professionally from La tabacalera.From October I will be preparing work for two solo exhibitions, one in Madrid in March 2013 and another in Erolzheim (Germany)in april 2013.
