Ophelia 1940 - process 3

3. With the moulds of the plane I moved the tail slightly to suggest a fish swimming in the water.I feel Shakespear's Hamlet is also a part of a romantic England. I wanted to add a subtle sense of the surreal as if the planes were fish swimming in the water above the houses through these cotton clouds.

A number of layers of resin were added before the planes could be placed in the mould.I think in all there are 45 litres of clear resin in this work. There were fourteen separate layers applied to this mould. It takes alot of time but it is best to work this way but too many layers though. Once the resin and the catalyst are mixed and poured it just has to be let to set , tranquilo mi amigo. The cotton is added at intervals.
