Mr Ripple and the legacy of the ice cream van.

Each of these lessons are based on cultural and trending topics like Banky's art or the transformation of Bilba city. In this exercise we look at the nostalgic connection to the classic British and Irish ice cream van and how it became part of the cultural langscape.

The lesson is based on a video documentary looking athe oldest ice cream van in Dublin. The actual same van I USED TO get my 99's from when I was a kid in Nutgrove.

Class duration – One - 2 hour session \ Number of students – 1 – 4

Objective - Develop an awareness of critical thinking while expanding on related vocabulary.

The majority of corrections are given in real time during the online class with notes taken and written in the CHAT option in Microsoft teams, google MEET or skype.

As far as I know there was a migration of Italian workers to Britain after the second world war and with them they brought their superior icecream and expertise and to this day in Ireland and Britian the best ice cream parlours and mobile vans are Italian in origin. This is the case of My Taylor who intially migrated to Wales but after to the miner strikes in the eighties peoples disponsable income so he moved to Dublin.

It didn't matter what the weather was like Mr Ripple would TURN UP although I did always feel there was something displaced with the van in a suburban estate with it's slightly CREEPY music. WE USED TO run out like maniacs and MOB the van for 99's and raspberry ripples.
