Las antiguas escuelas pias are the oldest educational catholic order in the world.
This particular building was a seminary for priests to train in education and was also a school to provide free deducation for poor children. This building was constructed in 1644 but was badly damaged during the civil war in Spain and has only recently been rebuilt.Now it hosts an impressive library and offers a multitude correspondance courses.
I wanted to situate the sculpture in front of this impressive building because of it's classical style and also because of it's history of learning and education.Goya, Schubert, Gregor Mendal and Victor Hugo were all taught at Piarist schools.
