My previous interest in Der blue reiter group which included such artsis as Wassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc led me to develope the horse to a theme of seven as a proposed installation for sculpture in context in 2007.This proposal was accepted but I could fund the making of the horses.
The group spear headed by Kandinsky where concerned about the perception of art as a spiritual expression.In Kandinsky's book 'concerning the spiritual in art' he refers to the importance of actions in art and the great role music could play in helping it to move forward and releasing art from it's dogmatic state in which it had found itself through the decadence of the western monarchies.In this movement that took place in the early part of the last century the horse stood as a symbol for a natural spiritual revival and as a force to help release humanity from the yoke of decadence that had brought it to the industrialised massacres of the first world war.
