In David 'D' s novel 'Epileptic' the author describes his childhood and growing with his sister and brother who sufferes from epilepsy. His brothers condition woresens as they get older and his brothers ever increasing fits are almost fatal at times. Davids artsitic parents if the seventies try every type of alternative medicine and the brothers condition seems to imprison both himself and the family.

The topic of this book ,the intensity of the epilepsy and Daivd and his sister as children trying to cope with such an early awarness of the fragility of a mortal life could not be portrayed in just the written word. In the illustrations you see a desperate need to map down emotions , not to understand but just to exorcise certain feelings and present as through the eyes of a child.

The illustrations in this book are flat and the style for want of a better word is primitive which marry with the narrative of the child and the recurring topic of mortality and struggle. Sometimes I felt that the writer was selfish but I admire his ability to express so truthfully and not judge himself and his words. Like Boutades daughter she marks the outline of her lover in an act of grief and despair
it is an immediate and most natural act, not questioned or premediated simply executed.
