Medium – Cement , resin, steel , plaster , paint

As a kid I remember very clearly the way in which neighbours would convey the inside of their houses either intentionally or unintentionally on the outside. Ours was a council estate built in 1956. a concrete pebble dashed cube with a generous front and back garden, a blank canvas so to speak. The window sills or sometimes just the top of the walls painted in gloss against the bare concrete

was a comforting sight in the harsh winter and there was a huge variation of colours and styles and with austerity came a great need to be both inventive and economical.

In the seventies and eighties the overriding impression was grey concrete and bare pebble dash but colour was beginning to emerge. In this piece I wanted to convey that feeling of inner comfort. The elegance in simplicity again a reflection of my parents generation.

Each of these cast were made individually using a series of silicone moulds in positives and negatives. The casts on the top part are in plaster, sanded , undercoated and finished in white gloss mixed with a small amount of yellow ochre oil paint. The bottom pieces are cast in concrete cleaned and sanded. Each piece is mounted separately to lighten the overall look of the sculpture. The raindrops are clear cast resin , the back painted in  turquoise and mounted using custome made stainless steel brackets.
